Happy New Year and Greetings Potential BEA Student Video Judges:
This is a Call for BEA Festival of Media Arts Student Video Judges-
I¹m entreating you to step up and volunteer as a Student Video Competition Judge. We’ve had a big jump in entrants with over 170 entries (120 last year). Ideally we would have 21 judges so that I may split the narrative category which has more than 50 entries. Right now I only have 11 volunteers from judges who have “re-upped” from past years.
Please consider helping out by judging AND by passing on this call to friends and colleagues who would be viable judges in one or our categories.
The viewing and evaluating approximately 25 videos should take volunteers somewhere between three-to-five hours. The judging needs to take place between now and Jan. 15th. In some arenas (especially for instructors and assistant professors) this activity counts as “scholarly activity.”
I’ve simplified this year’s scoring form and I hope it will make it easier for judges to quickly and accurately evaluate our contestant’s submissions.
I would especially encourage professors from those school’s who’ve benefited from winning awards in the past, to pay it backward by participating as a judge this year.
The Student Video Competition in six different categories (narrative, music video, animation/experimental, studio, promotional and educational/instructional). Ideally, we need at least three judges in each category. Unfortunately, the last few years we’ve fallen short of that goal and some judges have had to take on more than one category.
If you’re willing to contribute to “the good of the BEA cause” please email: wkoch@apu.edu
Volunteers please let me know which category you prefer and maybe a couple more categories you’d be qualified in but “merely willing” to judge. PLEASE try and choose a category where YOUR STUDENTS HAVE NOT ENTERED‹but we can work around that if you’ll give me a heads-up.
Thanks in advance for your work on behalf of BEA.
